Kids Create a cartoon

Contest

Calling ohio CHILDREN!

Featuring children’s book author Tracy Blom, and in partnership with Center of Science & Industry (COSI), we’re offering a series of writing workshops to kids around Ohio to teach them about story development, character design, world-building, and the Deep Blue Sea!

Each child will write their own story, to be entered into our Kids Create A Cartoon Contest and reviewed by our panel of judges. One child will be offered the chance to have their story turned into an animated short film by student animators at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

The first workshop begins on April 27th, 2025, at the Reynoldsburg Library during COSI’s Science Fest!

Last Year’s Contest Highlights

With a theme around DINOSAURS, kids across Ohio participated in storytelling workshops to write their own narratives involving prehistoric creatures. We received 100+ stories that went before our panel of industry judges: Eddie Gamarra, Audrey Knox, Matt Haley, Tamara Robertson, Jay Allen, and Steenz.

The stories were so good, we had not ONE, but TWO winners!

Those stories were:

TIME HATCH, by 9-year old Phoebe
THE ANKYLOSAURUS AND HIS CLUB, by 9-year old Nolan

The winning stories were handed over to student animators at the Columbus College of Art & Design, Myka Williamson and Hope Margaritis, who were mentored by industry professionals Dave Peth (Lyla in the Loop / Mighty Picnic) & Ray Mendoza Landa (Warner Brothers Animation).

We had a phenomenal turn out for the movie premiere and lots of yummy treats provided by Molly's Cupcakes and Wyandot Snacks.
